The Mighty Dunks
The below post was written in February 2021, at the epitome of the Nike Dunk hype. A lot has changed in 3 years, but I came across the draft and wanted to share.

You’ve seen them. You’ve loved them. You’ve dumped them…. And then started all over again.
It doesn’t matter if you’re old or young, just started understanding the sneaker game, or even been in it for a long time, this has most definitely happened to you. Now, January 2021, we are amidst the first widespread release of Dunks in recent years, highs and lows are hitting the marketplace and people are going absolutely apeshit over them.
And that’s what it’s all about, right? Having them, looking at them, almost meticulously studying them, and, if you’re anything like me, taking pictures of them. It’s not hard to see me crouching down in weird angles taking pictures of shoes, it’s something I’ve come to really enjoy.
When I worked in retail, I never worked behind the camera, even though Instagram was still predominantly a creative-based platform, more and more stores started jumping on it. And the photographer the store had was (and still is) amazing.
Pictures have the possibility to enamour a person with sneakers. It recently happened to me even - with a pair of Dunks, even. I had managed to get the Slam Jam light grey/white colorway so when I saw the Dunk High white/grey colorway I immediately thought, “meh, I can skip this one” but going through my IG feed I saw one store had styled it super simple: baggy-ish jeans and a laidback loose Dunk. And I felt it.
I made a few arrangements, and as soon as they arrived, they went straight on foot. Since then a few Dunks have shown up, including the Bodega Dunks (but those deserve an entire post that will follow in upcoming days) and I just can’t get enough of them.
Crazy yo think that 4 years ago I picked up the Syracuse High’s for 20 bucks at the outlet. What a difference a few days make.
