Dreams do come true.
This time last year I was up north in Spain, surfing, eating amazing food, and overall enjoying life. One eye was still glued to my screen as the final drafts of the book came in.
What book? Well, my pride and joy. The last 8 months had been spent collaborating with the amazing folks at Sneaker Freaker to recap 25 years of an amazing sneaker: The Air Max Plus. I won’t go into the details of red tape and approvals, but rather focus on the fun curveballs life throws at you, and how amazing it is when it all falls into place.
To set the context: couple years prior I was in Paris during Fashion Week, and went to a sneaker launch, while I was there, busy behind the camera, a person came up behind me and asked if they too could take some pictures. Little did I know how much that simple question would impact the upcoming months. The person behind the voice: Audrey Bugeja - Managing Editor and Head of Global Communications and Partnerships for Sneaker Freaker.
It took me a few deep breaths to not go absolutely crazy then and there and act it cool: I’ve been a fan of Sneaker Freaker for years and an avid reader/collector of SF. In my humble opinion, SF goes above and beyond in terms of Sneaker news, knowledge and editorial work. Each issue is an encyclopaedia of sneakers, both current and OG, they know their shit. So getting to meet one of the top dogs was nuts!
It wasn’t long before we were having drinks and discussing projects when the possibility of doing a book came up to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the TN (Air Max Plus). So we set off. My idea was clear: support, but let them do what they do best.
In record time (9 months from initial brief to delivery of the printed books) they had produced an amazing ode to a revolutionary sneaker. I was happy to support by shooting some content, and we knew we were on to something big.
When the book launched across the globe, it sold out extremely quick and has become a grail of sorts. Four different covers, for four different Geo’s and those that share the passion for the sneaker trying to get their hands on all four.
For me, well, a dream came true with the book, I got to work with SF, and met some amazing people I have the pleasure of calling friends now.
